Introduction

Thailand, a land of endless adventure and exotic treasures, delights with its culture, nature and spirituality. Known as the Land of Smiles, it attracts millions of tourists from around the world each year. But you'll know the real Thailand when you head north to the heart of the former Kingdom of Lanna, where your adventure begins - in Chiang Mai, the "Rose of the North."

Your journey begins as the north of Thailand prepares for some of the most beautiful holidays - Loy Krathong and Yee Peng. Loy Krathong, the Festival of Lights, is a magical time when rivers are filled with flowing garlands (krathongs) decorated with candles and flowers, and thousands of lanterns (khom loi) float into the sky, symbolizing purification and new beginnings. Yee Peng, celebrated at the same time, is a unique midnight festival, when lanterns light up the sky throughout the former Kingdom of Lanna in honor of spirits and ancestors. The two festivals, celebrating light, spirituality and harmony, create an unforgettable atmosphere that stays in the heart for a long time.

A proposal for a 14-day trip where you will discover northern Thailand on a motorcycle, following the legendary Mae Hong Son route, full of serpentines and breathtaking views. Supported by a minibus, you'll set off from Chiang Mai through the most beautiful parts of the mountainous north until you reach Chiang Rai, where culture and nature intertwine in harmony. And finally - relax on the paradisiacal beaches of the south, where the sun, sand and sea will invite you to rest after an eventful journey

Touring expedition with elements of a travel expedition, safely organized, for lovers of unicycle travel and those who prefer to travel in more comfortable conditions of four-point support. An adventure for those with a taste for a moderately active yet sociable way of spending time dedicated to unconventional exploration of the world....

LOY KRATHONG FESTIVAL

Loy Krathong is one of the biggest annual holidays celebrated in Thailand, sometimes referred to by tourists as the Festival of Light. Loy Krathong most often falls in November. It is a special time of joy and thanksgiving for Thais, during which people gather to release krathongs (floating vessels made of banana leaves) into rivers and lakes as an expression of gratitude for the blessings they have received throughout the year.

The word "Loy" in Thai means "to float", "Krathong" are the small rafts used during this festival. Krathongs are decorated with flowers, candles, incense and coins, representing gifts and offerings to river spirits or water goddesses. The celebrants also write down wishes on pieces of paper, which they put into the krathongs.

On the night of Loy Krathong, Thais gather in large numbers on the banks of rivers and canals all over Thailand, bring handmade, or bought from krathong stalls. At sunset, everyone lights candles and incense, and then sets out together with floating lanterns to the rivers and lakes, creating an amazing spectacle. During this time, fireworks light up the sky adding a huge pump to the spectacle. Groups of dancers, accompanied by live music played by local musicians, set the rhythm and pull people into a whirlwind of traditional Thai dances, one of which is the Ramwong usually danced around a large bonfire.

Loy Krathong is an ancient tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation for centuries, making it an important part of Thai culture today. An amazingly spectacular and beautiful festival celebrated all over Thailand, the most lavish and spectacular, however, due also to the lighted kites flown into the sky unseen anywhere else, is celebrated in Chiang Mai, considered the capital and center of Loy Krathong celebrations.

WHAT AND FOR WHOM IS THE TRIP?

An intensive tour and motorcycle vacation in one, a touring exploration of an exotic land along its most beautiful roads assisted and accompanied by a fun minibus...That's what this trip is.

Hundreds and sometimes thousands of turns in one day, stunning views, Thai temples, Buddhist monks, opium and smugglers' routes, Lao, Thai, Chinese and hill tribes, a palette of colors and flavors unparalleled anywhere else, and an equally exotic culture!

The definition of this trip certainly depends on the skills and experience of the participant, it is definitely not a ride proposal aimed at complete beginners, but neither is it an extreme or even a competitive trip into the unknown. It's an average level of motor touring in the form of a motorcycle in another extremely attractive Asian tourist destination - Thailand.

A trip for both singles who want to experience the adventure of motorcycle tourism in Thailand, but for couples who want to spend an interesting and active time exploring this part of the world. The trip is definitely for sociable, tolerant and open-minded people.

WHAT IS THE PLAN IN A NUTSHELL?

Departure from Poland (WAW) on Wednesday  With landing in Bangkok the next day (Thursday) in the afternoon. Fly on a local flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai, there transfer to the hotel and rest, pick up the motorcycles and participate in Thailand's biggest holiday -. Loy Krathong.

Loy Krathong is a Buddhist festival that Thais celebrate during the full moon, the 12th month of the Thai calendar, which usually falls in November. A lavish and highly spectacular holiday, with parades and a huge number of lanterns gliding filled with hot air. The biggest spectacle of the holiday Loy Krathong are right in Chiang Mai, which at this time attracts Thais from all over the country and countless tourists. There is an amazing spectacle going on for 2 days, of which we will be a part during this trip.

The next 9 days drive by motorcycles and van along the designated route, less than 260 km per day, quite a few attractions: passes, towns, pagodas, crops, temples, historical sites, meetings with local communities, local cuisine, local craft workshops, folklore and a Polish-speaking pilot/guide/resident with experience. Day 11 arrival in Chiang Mai, return of motorcycles flight by local airlines from Chiang Mai to Bangkok and overland transfer for the final resort leg. 2 days on the beaches of the south coast and return to Bangkok by van. Return flight on the 15th day of your stay in Thursday From Bangkok with a landing in Warsaw the next day.

We head north, moving along the Burmese border. Here, en route, we'll call in - although we'll have to change to a more suitable mode of transportation and change to a boat - to one of the oldest and authentic villages of Burmese settlers and the Long Neck tribe.

This place is unique and completely unlike several others artificially created throughout Thailand, where human slavery is practiced, the artificial community is Burmese women, stripped of their rights and put on display like animals in a zoo. It is Thailand's only example of so-called Community-Based Tourism (CBT) or community-based tourism

Huay Pu Keng is authentic, a real village with a real community of women, men and children, with a school and tribal council, not just an attraction for thousands of visiting tourists. Here, women are not treated like exhibits, and that is why we visit it.

Aside from this must-see curiosity in this part of Thailand, the day included a super road, super views, super postcard photo opportunities and a ride on the longest bamboo bridge in Thailand!

We will stop for the night in the midst of a tea plantation, in a beautiful village of Chinese settlers, right on the border with Burma - Ban Rak Thai.

The place of accommodation (a hotel with a swimming pool) is conducive to "doing nothing". For the more active and demanding the day can be partially organized, for this circumstance we will prepare a few suggestions and hints.

Trasa approx. 180 km

A lot of attractions for one day and for such a far northern part of Thailand... And yet!

In addition to the incredible views surrounding us as we traverse the next section of the road, the program featured a cave that the whole world lived in for 2 weeks - the Tham Luang, and in which, in 2018, a group of trapped 12 underage soccer players with a coach waited for 10 days to be rescued.

It wouldn't be Thailand without opium, so on today's agenda we have a visit to an opium museum and, of course, the Golden Triangle - the point on the world map where the Mekong and Ruak rivers intersect and the borders of 3 countries - Thailand, Laos and Burma - meet. It is the Golden Triangle and surrounding area that was once the capital of the world's largest opium producers....

We will be staying in Chiang Rai for the night.
