BLACKWELL...
In the early morning hours of April 26, 1986, a sudden and uncontrolled power surge led to a reactor accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant - a town in the then Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic. The resulting accident was an explosion that unleashed radiation a hundred times stronger than that at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, as well as a gigantic cloud of radioactive contamination, the movement of which was observed throughout Europe, with traces detected even in Ireland.
Thirty years after the disaster, Chernobyl has become a kind of grim tourist attraction and a lesson in how much human lives can be cost by the complacency of power. It has also become home for some 140 people, called "samosels." Every day the place is visited by tourists, whose number reaches up to 900 a day on weekend days.
Chernobyl is not dangerous, taking proper precautions and obeying the rules imposed on visitors. By far the best way to effectively spend time in the Exclusion Zone is to take advantage of the offer of one of the numerous tourist offices that specialize in organizing trips to the zone. The choice of the office is not insignificant, as it is in Ukraine....
FOR WHO?
Families, friends, acquaintances and strangers, but curious about what is on the map of Europe one of the so-called MUST SEE places and is located less than a day's drive beyond our eastern border. The tour is especially for those who remember the explosion of the power plant and the accompanying horror of the catastrophe, also for those who cannot remember it, but have learned the history and want to feel the atmosphere of that time up close, for lovers of abandoned places and urban exploration... A trip for adults only.
